Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker has thanked Dunedin residents for fundraising efforts on behalf of his beleaguered city.
The mayor contacted organisers of a Dunedin benefit concert yesterday to express the city's gratitude to its southern neighbours.
The Golden Centre will hold an "Earthquake Extravaganza" concert from 3pm to 8pm on Friday, hosted by the Oxo Cubans, to raise money for the Christchurch earthquake appeal.
"We're hoping to raise more than $10,000," Golden Centre Holdings general manager Simon Eddy said yesterday.
"The concert started as a small thing, really, and we've now got more than 20 Dunedin businesses behind it."
The Dunedin City Council has issued a special liquor licence, from 5pm to 8pm, for a Friday drinks promotion at the event.
"All the beer and wine has been donated and all proceeds will be going to the earthquake appeal," Mr Eddy said.
The fundraising benefited by another $2500 yesterday, from Dunedin business Cook Brothers Construction.
