Dunedin police were yesterday still mopping up after a busy weekend of disorder and assaults in the city.
Forty-two people were arrested between 5pm on Friday and 8am yesterday, Sergeant Chris George said.
Fine weather meant more people than usual were in the city centre during the weekend, he said.
A 36-year-old man, who faces multiple charges after he allegedly attacked two men with a wheelbrace in George St about 5am on Sunday, was bailed to September 15 when he appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday.
One of the victims, a 25-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment for a fractured eye socket, and a 21-year-old man received a gash to the back of his head.
The alleged offender also required medical treatment after his victims allegedly turned on him.
In another incident, a 26-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly repeatedly punched the head of an 18-year-old sitting in a car in in Filleul St, about 1am on Sunday.
Sgt George said the attack was unprovoked and random.
The alleged offender had several active charges and was wanted for arrest.
He would appear in court today.
Also appearing in court today is a 44-year-old Nelson man who faces drugs charges after Dunedin CIB staff found about 1kg of cannabis - with a street value of about $14,000 - in his vehicle when he was pulled over in Waikouaiti on Friday night.
