Mornington florist Netta Truell says the outpouring of support from the community since her business was burgled last week has restored her faith in humanity.

Miss Truell, the owner of Mailer St business Flowers on Mornington, said the community had rallied around her since the shop window was smashed and the till taken during an early-morning raid on August 31.

''The community has been really kind and really great,'' she said.

''Quite a few people have phoned up and popped in, and lots of people are saying 'I'm sorry to hear that's happened'.

''I have had a couple of people come in [who otherwise would not] to buy flowers.''

While she was initially devastated by the theft of the till, which contained $200, she now had a more philosophical outlook.

''To be honest, I'm not too worried,'' she said.

''If someone wants to rob a store, they are probably hungry.''

Miss Truell relocated to Dunedin from Wellington about three months ago.

She took over the store only last month and had already witnessed the worst and best side of the community, but she was heartened by all the support.

''I have had a lot of people ringing and checking in on me and seeing if I'm OK. Things have been going pretty good.''

A police spokeswoman said Dunedin police continued to investigate the burglary.

Dunedin police (03) 471-4800, Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
