Four front doors kicked in

The behaviour of people who kicked in four front doors and then drove off on Saturday night is sick and disappointing, the occupants say.

The first door was kicked in about 8.45pm in Douglas St, Allanton, the second an hour later in Alma St, St Kilda, the third at 11.08pm in Harbour Heights, Waverley, and the fourth at 11.50pm in Dalgety St, South Dunedin.

In all four cases the occupants were at home.

When the occupants heard a loud bang they ran to the door and heard a car speed off.

All of the doors needed replacing.

Nothing was taken from any of the properties.

Three of the victims said they were so upset and scared by the incident, they could not sleep that night.

One victim described it as "bizarre" and "obviously someone's sick sense of humour".

The cost was not only in getting the door, and in her case, the door frame, fixed, but she had to take time off work because she could not leave the house unsecured.

Her door was clearly kicked in because there were footprints on it, she said.

"I find it quite disappointing someone would find that amusing."

She said people should be aware someone was going around randomly damaging property.

Police are investigating.
