Fuel tanker delayed, misses tide

The fuel tanker Kakariki's departure from Dunedin was postponed 24 hours by a combination of a brief delay during checking fuel quality and missing the tide.

Kakariki arrived on Thursday and was scheduled to leave yesterday, but is now scheduled to leave today at 10am.

Silver Fern Shipping general manager Steve Parker said, when contacted yesterday, quality assurance on testing fuel samples took longer than anticipated and subsequently, the tanker missed the higher tide required for departure yesterday.

Coastal Oil Logistics Ltd, owned equally by the New Zealand subsidiaries of Mobil, BP, Chevron and Shell, charters the tankers Kakariki and Toroa from Silver Fern Shipping.

They deliver fuel from the Marsden Point refinery, near Whangarei, also co-owned by the four oil companies,to 10 destinations around the country, including Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, Timaru and Nelson.
