New grass under irrigation turns Hancock Park green as golfers tee off on the 16th hole at Chisholm Links (inset) this week.

The growth follows Dunedin City Council work to remove the top 50mm of the playing fields and re-level the No 1 rugby and football fields by laser.

Both fields had been uneven, compacted and struggled to get good grass coverage, resulting in a poor playing surface.

The work to develop good quality, well-drained fields is expected to cost between $50,000 and $60,000.
