Health forces Hudson to withdraw from hearing

Dunedin city councillor Paul Hudson was forced to withdraw from yesterday's Ocean Beach hearing after being readmitted to Dunedin Hospital.

It is understood Cr Hudson has been struggling to recover since fracturing his shoulder in 11 places last year, after falling while trying to prevent a shopping trolley hitting a car at the New World supermarket in Port Chalmers.

Cr Hudson was a member of the council's Ocean Beach hearings committee and was due to attend yesterday's deliberations.

Instead, he was readmitted to Dunedin Hospital last Friday and discharged only yesterday, committee chairman Cr Colin Weatherall said.

It was not yet known when Cr Hudson would return to his civic duties.

"We look forward to a speedy return, but he's got to look after himself," he said.

Cr Hudson could not be contacted late yesterday.
