Andrew Blair, of Hawke’s Bay, was this week appointed chairman of both the Capital and Coast District Health Board and the Hutt Valley District Health Board.

Mr Blair is chairman of the Southern Partnership Group, the group overseeing the $300 million Dunedin Hospital rebuild.

All three jobs are appointed by Health Minister Dr Jonathan Coleman. The DHB chairman appointments take effect on Monday, and follow the DHB elections held in October.

It is the first time Mr Blair has been chairman of a DHB.

Mr Blair told the Otago Daily Times  he was spending up to five days a month on the hospital rebuild. He would cut back on some of his other work in order to focus on his three main jobs.

Mr Blair said the rebuild project was making good progress.

"There is some good work being done towards getting a long list of options together. That list is expected to be quite wide-ranging to help provoke focus to develop the shortlist next year."

The Southern District Health Board is the only DHB in New Zealand that does not have a chairman or chairwoman.

"Southern DHB continues to have a commissioner and deputy commissioner team in place to implement a financially sustainable plan to deliver quality health services," Dr Coleman said in a press release this week.
