About 15 Stateside Streeters Inc members rolled into Dunedin’s Forrester Park in their American vehicles — Chevrolet convertibles and Impalas, to name a few — to pick up their passengers.
About four hospice staff and 19 volunteers, along with their families, were driven to Taieri Mouth and then on to Waihola for an ice cream.
Stateside Streeters Inc member Paul Barron said the ride was organised in the lead up to this year’s Great USA Day.
The club donates the proceeds from the annual car show to the hospice, but the ride was another way to show its support, he said.
Member Murray Pascoe said many people had experienced, or would experience, having a friend or family member at the hospice.
"It is always good to give something back."
Hospice fundraising co-ordinator Amy Ruthven said the ride was a fun day out for the families.
It helped them connect with the club members and put faces to names.
"[The Stateside Streeters Inc] are great supporters."
This year’s Great USA Day will be held on March 6 at Hancock Park.
