But the school's board of trustees says it will still not make public what that decision is.
The ministry recently instructed the school to institute an enrolment scheme.
The school roll has grown to 1023, and that growth required the relocation of four prefabricated classrooms to King's from other schools this year.
Other schools in the city have reported their numbers dropping.
The board met on Monday night to make a decision on the issue.
Board chairman David Booth said yesterday he had spoken to Ministry of Education Otago-Southland manager Kathryn Palmer to ''see where they're at, and their time frames''.
''To be fair to both of us, we've got to work together on this.
''I just don't think it's going to be helpful to bat it back and forth through the media.''
Mr Booth said he expected it would take three weeks before the school and the ministry were able to meet to discuss the matter.
