'Lucky escape' after rolled vehicle stops at cliff's edge

A man who rolled his land-cruiser off a steep clay track in North Dunedin had a "very lucky" escape, police say.

The 19-year-old was driving downhill near Butts Rd at 8.30pm yesterday when he over-corrected and rolled.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said the vehicle came to a stop and perched on the edge of the cliff next to a 75-metre drop.

The vehicle had to be winched from the area.

Snr Sgt Bond said incidents like this were a reminder to drive to the conditions and driver experience level.
