Generosity made for a great Poppy Day in Dunedin yesterday.

Dunedin RSA finance officer Sally Turner said 37 stands manned by nearly 300 volunteers were set up on city streets for the RSA's annual appeal and the response was great.

Mosgiel RSA vice-president Sandy Trainor said there were 13 stalls in Mosgiel with 100 volunteers working through the day. He believed the total collected was up on last year.

HMNZS Toroa naval reserve able writer volunteer Karen Robertson, who collected in Dunedin, said people had been generous and most passers-by had poppies on.

Poppy-sellers will be at the Otago Farmers Market today and poppies are still available in 150 businesses around Dunedin.

Posy-making will take place at the United Servicemen's Club, South Dunedin, from 9am to noon today. People wanting to make posies or give small flowers are welcome.

• Umbrellas are likely to be needed at Anzac services around Otago tomorrow , MetService says.

Several fronts were expected to bring periods of wind and rain to southern parts of the country over the weekend, weather ambassador Bob McDavitt said.

For Anzac dawn services, the outlook was for mostly cloudy, mild weather with scattered rain throughout Otago.
