Four young men in a North Dunedin house were tied up and "hooded" during a home invasion early on Friday, Dunedin police said yesterday.
Detective Sergeant Brett Roberts said "possibly four males or more", wearing disguises, entered the house in Selwyn St at about 2am.
The four occupants, in their early 20s, were "bound and hooded".
They received minor injuries, and some items were stolen.
"Prior to leaving, one male offender has cut a tie that bound one of the victims' hands, who was then able to release the other flatmates," Det Sgt Roberts said.
"One of the offenders made comments to the victims about not to try and follow them."
The offenders were carrying "what is described as similar to a pistol, and a large knife".
"It appears as though this address was specifically targeted rather than being a random attack."
It is not known how the offenders were travelling.
Police would like to hear from anyone in the vicinity about 2am on Friday or anyone with information "relevant to this aggravated burglary".
