The Meintjes brothers spent much of yesterday morning slip-sliding away at Moana Pool’s refurbished hydroslide.

And it was not a moment too soon.

Leo and Jack Meintjes have been waiting for the popular aquatic attraction to reopen for months, after it was closed in June this year as part of a $25million refurbishment of the pool.

The ageing slides were built in 1984 and the refurbishment work included cleaning the exterior of the slides, refurbishing sections of the slides and the support structure, re-grouting tiles in the exit pool, as well as repairing the access ramp and top enclosure area.

The wider refurbishment is part of improvements to the family changing rooms and other facilities, along with new tiling, upgraded ventilation and other equipment, seismic strengthening, accessibility improvements and the removal of asbestos.

Contractors have also installed new fire alarm and emergency lighting systems as well as a new ceiling in the area between the main pool and the leisure pool.

The hydroslide officially reopened on Saturday and the Meintjes brothers said they had missed it while it was closed.

Despite only being 4 years old, Jack said he was an "expert" on the ride and was enjoying slipping back into sliding.
