Mosgiel burglaries prompt warning

Mosgiel residents were urged to be vigilant and secure their possessions after a spate of burglaries and car thefts in recent weeks.

Mosgiel Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd said during the past three weeks three burglaries had occurred along Riccarton Rd.

Last week, thieves stole 8m of firewood from an enclosed yard during daylight hours. An early burglary resulted in the removal of fuel in containers taken from a shed. A chainsaw was taken from another property.

"We are keeping an open mind as to whether the incidents are linked," Snr Sgt Lloyd said.

"We are asking residents to have a heightened awareness of any suspicious activity, particularly in the Riccarton Rd area."

Cars had been interfered with at Peter Johnstone Park the past few weekends. Vehicles left in the car park had locks damaged, and other vehicles had been entered, Snr Sgt Lloyd said.

Police would be increasing patrols in the area, and talking to management of the Taieri Rugby Football Club to alert car-park users.
