Enjoying some fresh air on Mother’s Day are the Collins family, (from left) Susan, twins Max and Sophie (1), Tommy (3) and dad Dean, of Dunedin.

Throughout the weekend, warmer weather drew crowds to Dunedin beaches, and in what may have been the last weekend before Level 3 restrictions are eased, St Clair was bustling with crowds.

Cafes in the area were busy serving takeaways to many, and social distancing appeared to have been more relaxed, many catching up with those outside their bubbles.

An electronic sign was in place at the start of John Wilson Ocean Dr, reminding people of the rules.

While police did not answer questions about Mother’s Day or weekend breaches, a police spokeswoman said in the Southern district there had been 107 breaches of restrictions since the start of Level 3.

Of these, 21 had resulted in prosecution, 75 had resulted in a warning and 11 were youth referrals.

Nationwide there had been 1051 breaches of restrictions.
