Grab the popcorn - it's movie time in Middlemarch.
The Film Heritage Trust member Maurice Hayward (82) said he had digitised old films shot on the Taieri for a screening at an East of the Rock and Pillar meeting in Middlemarch next month.
The footage includes a 1939 snowfall, a 1940 flood in East Taieri, the Mounted Rifles' Regiment in Sutton in the late 1930s and the Middlemarch Show in the late 1940s featuring trains in the Taieri Gorge.
Other subjects featured included skiers, chaff-cutters, tennis players, dog triallist competitors, swimmers, pipe band players, firefighters and farmers.
Some of the films were owned by the trust, the rest were from Taieri resident Geoff McHardy.
The footage was filmed between 1928 and the 1970s.
Mr Hayward said the digitisation work was a ''labour of love'' and was ongoing.
''I don't want to die before it's finished,'' he joked.
East of the Rock and Pillar co-ordinator Dawn Coburn said the screening, at 1pm on October 4 at the Strath Taieri Community Centre, was a chance for people with an affinity to the district to share stories.
