Previously Angus Burger and Charlotte's Bakery on George St, the new hospice shop has taken about three months to refurbish and retail manager Lyn Chapman is excited about its opening.
''We've had to completely refurbish inside,'' she said.
''[It's] great work that the volunteers and hospice shop staff have done.
''It's been a combined effort to get to here.''
All of the items in the new store are donations and none of the stock had come from the previous store. The stock that has not been sold from the old Hanover St store will be recycled.
Hospice marketing and funding manager Stanley Hebden said they could never have done it without the support of local businesses and tradesmen.
''Without the community, we just couldn't have done it ... which is fantastic.''
The seven hospice stores around Otago hospice were ''always in need of quality items to be donated'', Mr Hebden said. Hospice chief executive Ginny Green said in a statement, the hospice shops provided a significant amount of the $2 million needed to offer the care and services free of charge across Otago.
''We have had fantastic support already from local and national fashion designers so the new shop will have some real treasures and bargains available for shoppers [and] any donations would be gratefully received.''
