Potpourri on Lower Stuart St has been put on the market by owners Mark and Christine Ford who hope to sell it to someone with the energy and vision to expand the business.
Potpourri specialises in vegetarian and vegan food, all of which is made on the premises. The cafe has featured in many of the New Zealand Lonely Planet guides including the 2009 edition.
The Fords, who moved to New Zealand from England two years ago, took over the busy cafe in April 2007. ‘‘We had always planned to come to Dunedin because my wife had been here . . . and when we got here we looked at buying a business,'' Mr Ford said.
Mr Ford had worked as a senior business manager for Sanyo in the United Kingdom.
‘‘We have had to work hard. We have learnt a lot about running a business. ‘‘We want to sell Potpourri to someone who will carry on the business because it has so much more potential.''
This potential includes an industrial-sized kitchen and hundreds of vegetarian recipes. ‘‘We would love to come back here for an evening meal. It's a great business for someone to buy.''
The couple, who are not vegetarians, are selling the business to concentrate on one of the main reasons they moved to Dunedin - diving and learning to sail.
