Passengers on a flight from Auckland to Dunedin are still waiting for their luggage two days on.
Radio New Zealand reported dozens of passengers on Jetstar’s Sunday morning flight to Dunedin were left without their bags after Jetstar off-loaded their luggage and did not tell them until they reached their destination.
Alison Boyce was heading South for a trip to Stewart Island, but was forced to rebook her onward travel and wait for her bag, which was left in Auckland and contained vital gear and medication.
On arrival in Dunedin, she went to the Jetstar counter and was told to fill out a form and given a photocopy.
She was not told when she could expect her luggage. Later in the day, she rang a number on the form and waited about 45 minutes to talk to someone.
She was told her bags would arrive at 11.15am the next day, which meant she would have to change her plans to travel to Stewart Island at 8.30am. She said nothing was mentioned about the luggage being offloaded when they got on the plane.
"I think it’s disgraceful and I understand they had the same issue the day before and it’s just as if even though they knew it was a problem, they had no operational systems to cope with it. They just left you to flounder."
Ms Boyce said she thought dozens of people were affected as there were 70 people the next day waiting for their bags at the Jetstar counter.
A Jetstar spokeswoman said some of its customers’ bags had to be offloaded from flight JQ285 on Sunday to ensure the safe weight and balance of the aircraft. She said the bags were put on the next available flight to Dunedin.
This comes after eight passengers were bumped from an Air New Zealand flight from Wellington to Dunedin on Saturday because it was overweight.
