This photo of a little owl, taken by Neale McLanachan, of Dunedin, was highly commended by judges in last year’s Otago Wildlife Photography Competition, which has been renamed this year.

The former competition has been rebranded as the Otago Museum Photography Awards and the prize money has been boosted.

More than $5000 will be provided in prizes.

The contest has a new pop-up landscape category, and a new social media category in which entries are accepted only via Instagram and Facebook.

The contest opens tomorrow and closes on May 24. After judging, selected photographs will be displayed in a museum exhibition opening on June 26.
