Piece of woman's lip bitten off in fight

A large piece of a woman's lip was bitten off by a female attacker during a fight on Highgate, Dunedin, yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin, said members of the public called emergency services about 9am when the screaming 19-year-old victim was left lying on the ground in front of the Maori Hill dairy.

St John staff took the woman to Dunedin Hospital for treatment.

The woman received a considerable wound to her lip, from which a large chunk appeared to have been bitten off, he said.

A 20-year-old Christchurch woman, known to the victim, was located a short time later at a Prestwick St house. She was charged with assault and will appear in the Dunedin District Court next Tuesday.
