Police are investigating a string of South Dunedin street attacks and robberies, including one where a group kicked and punched a man in the head outside a dairy last night.

In another attack a woman was hit with a bottle of wine and had her handbag stolen.

A police spokeswoman said about 8.50pm last night three people approached a 23-year-old man outside the 10 O’Clock Dairy in Prince Albert Road, assaulted him, broke his mobile phone and took a small amount of cash from him.

The man was kicked and punched, suffered cuts to his head and was taken to Dunedin Hospital for assessment.

He has since been discharged.

There was limited descriptions of the three offenders, but one was thought to be a male Polynesian or Maori wearing a black hoodie, and black beanie.

No other descriptions were available for the others, but all three left in what was thought to be a blue Subaru.

Anyone who saw such a vehicle last night was asked to contact Dunedin police or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

In another attack police believe could be linked, a man was punched in the face while walking along MacAndrew Road in Forbury, South Dunedin about 8pm.

The group of men attacked the man's head while shouting at him, before driving off in a blue Subaru.

In another unrelated attack a woman was hit with a bottle of wine and had her handbag stolen at the corner of Bay View Rd and Prince Albert Rd just before 9.30pm.

Police were called when a victim phoned police saying she had been attacked while drinking with a group.

Police arrived at the scene and a short time later the woman’s bag was recovered.

A 17-year-old Dunedin woman was arrested and would appear in the Dunedin District Court on March 30 charged with robbery.
