Police name McDonald's assault victim

Police have released the name of a Dunedin man who died after being punched in a McDonald's restaurant in the city at the weekend.

He was Stephen (Steve) Francis Radnoty, of Brockville.

A death notice said the 51-year-old was the dearly loved "husband in heart" of Carol and the dearly loved father to four children and four grandchildren.

A funeral for Mr Radnoty will be held in Dunedin on Thursday.

He was punched while waiting in line at the George St McDonalds early on Saturday.

A 23-year-old Christchurch man is in custody on an assault charge in relation to the incident.

He is expected to face a more serious charge when he reappears in the Dunedin District Court today.
