Three men have been charged with burglary after they were arrested in the old National Bank building in Dunedin.

A police spokeswoman said a public tip-off just after midnight this morning led to the arrests in the historic Princes St building.

"It appears they may have entered the building via some scaffolding up the building and through a window.

"Police units, including a dog unit attended quickly and found three people on site who were in the progress of doing the burglary,'' the police spokeswoman said.

The men, arrested at the scene, were being held in custody, and would appear in the Dunedin District Court tomorrow.

The youngest was a 17-year-old, and the other two were 21.

"Great work by members of the public and the police eventuated in this catch,'' the spokeswoman said.
