West Harbour Community Board chairman Steve Walker is keen to pass on a "friendly reminder" that the 30-minute and 60-minute car parks in Port Chalmers are not an invitation to park there all day.
Mr Walker said in a report at a recent board meeting he wanted to raise awareness about the people being more considerate parking in the town’s main street.
After the meeting, he said he had heard reports from some older citizens about having found it hard to find convenient car parks on flat areas close to facilities in George St, including the medical centre.
"We should simply respect it’s not an all-day car park."
He was aware some people who worked in the area stayed too long in what were intended to be short-stay parking spaces.
He also welcomed news from Dunedin City Council transport safety team leader Hjarne Poulson that large electronic advisory speed signs would later in the year be placed for some time near the southern entry to the town, and also in a winding area of road near Aramoana.
