More than 400 Southern blokes attended a Promise Keepers ministry held in Dunedin over the weekend.

The Christian-based organisation launched its 2008 campaign at Elim Christian Centre, Dunedin, on Friday night and it had been well received by the more than 400 men who registered for the event, national director Paul Subritzky said.

The two-day men-only ministry included motivational speakers who spoke on a wide range of issues concerning men, he said.

"Trying to get men to open up is hard.

That is why we have these male-only events"People had travelled from as far afield as Invercargill and Oamaru to attend the annual Dunedin event.

A proposed motivational truck pull between two opposing teams was cancelled due to the weather.
