It was a happy St Patrick's Day at the Mornington Tavern last night for publican David ''Murdoch'' Miskimmin.

Yesterday, police executed two search warrants and arrested a 37-year-old Clutha man following a spate of commercial burglaries in Invercargill and Dunedin.

The man was remanded in custody and would appear in the Dunedin District Court today on 19 charges.

The charges relate to five commercial burglaries in the Mornington area last month.

Mr Miskimmin confirmed he had been contacted by police yesterday, confirming they had caught the man who allegedly stole several thousand dollars in gold coins from his poker machines.

He hit the headlines when he offered a $1000 reward for the arrest of the offender following the burglary.

Mr Miskimmin said he was looking forward to having a few drinks of Guinness to celebrate, and was looking at using the reward money to improve security.

Police said the arrested man was also facing 10 charges relating to burglaries in Roslyn and Kaikorai Valley on the night of March 8.

He was also charged with four burglaries in Invercargill between March 11 and 14. Police believe he may be linked to a large number of other burglaries, with inquiries being made about property recovered.
