"It's damaged a lot of people and it's going to go on for a lot longer yet.

"A lot of people in Canterbury will be getting a bit down and depressed now," said Brenna Poll.

Brenna (13) and other members of the newly formed Bayfield High School Junior Film Club have been collecting video messages of support and encouragement from prominent people in Dunedin, to send to the earthquake-hit people of Christchurch.

"We want to give them a bit of hope, inspiration, and show them that there are people outside Canterbury who are thinking of them," she said.

So far, the club's 15 members have recorded messages from television and radio presenter Jim Mora (formerly of Dunedin), Dunedin Mayor Peter Chin, members of the Otago rugby team and singer Gin Wigmore, a relative of one of the club's members.

Brenna said the club would continue to collect messages during the next two weeks, before sending them to Christchurch, where it was hoped they would be played on CTV.

"It's been very rewarding. Hopefully, it gives them strength to keep going," she said.
