Robber took tobacco and cash from foodstore

A man who held up staff at the Mornington Night 'n Day Foodstore in Mailer St, Dunedin, on Sunday night got away with more than 70 bags of tobacco and a quantity of cash, police say.

The man is still at large following the knife-point robbery at about 9pm. After the hold-up, the man left the store on foot in the direction of the Mornington shopping centre.

Detective Sergeant Chris Henderson, of Dunedin, said police would like to speak to anyone who had been offered cheap tobacco or who saw anything suspicious in the area before 9pm.

The robber was described as slim and of medium height. He was wearing a black balaclava, a black hoodie and black trousers with a light stripe down the side of each leg.
