There is still no word on when the final ministerial appointment will be made to the Southern District Health Board.
Most appointments were announced in late November after October's local body elections.
Southern is the only board still with a vacancy.
Chairman Joe Butterfield said he accepted there was a process which needed to be worked through and it was "better to get the right appointee than to rush it".
It is likely Health Minister Tony Ryall has been seeking a Maori woman for the role.
The law requires the minister to "endeavour to ensure" there are at least two Maori members on any district health board.
There is only Tahu Potiki in the current membership.
There are only two women among the 10 board members, Kaye Crowther (from Southland) and Mary Flannery (Otago), both elected members.
The last Otago board had five women members and Southland's had six (both including Susie Johnstone, deputy to both boards). District health boards have 11 members, seven elected and four appointed.
It is understood the appointment could be some weeks away.
