Sale anything but unpopular

Scores of people swarmed into the Regent Theatre’s Anything But Books sale yesterday, where many artworks were sold.

Event convener Kath Wallace said demand was strong again  this sale, the 10th time it had been separated from the main annual Regent 24 Hour Book Sale. There was less demand for children’s toys, but music-related items, including compact discs, were much more popular.

"Vinyl records, they’ve done extremely well this year."

More artworks were available yesterday and also proved more popular than last year.

Thirty-four volunteers pitched in to help, and Mrs Wallace said she was "quite happy" with the buoyant mood at the sale, which ran from noon to 8pm. A "big crowd of people" had been at the Regent, in Dunedin, and people had been "going away smiling". It was hoped  last year’s $13,000 gross sale income would be matched, she said.
