Dunedin musicians had a chance to strike a chord with music industry professionals last night.

About 40 musicians attended the free seminar Going Local at Re:Fuel Cafe and Bar.

The professionals at the seminar were from the Australasian Performing Right Assn, dunedinmusic.com, Independent Music New Zealand, New Zealand Music Commission, The NZ Music Managers Forum, NZ On Air and Recorded Music NZ.

Independent Music New Zealand chairman Matthew Davis said the "cross-section of agencies'' were mostly based in Auckland.

The seminar was a chance for musicians to ask the professionals questions about the industry.

Dunedin was the first stop on a national tour including Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Wellington.

Mr Davis hoped the tour would become an annual event, "to find out what people need to know and how we can help them''.

Dunedinmusic.com director Scott Muir, the manager of Dunedin band The Chills, said the seminar allowed musicians to put "names to faces'' to those working in the industry.
