South Dunedin is getting a long-awaited tidy-up, with retailers and building owners taking advantage of a one-off grant for cleaning and painting facades.

Two King Edward St buildings have already been completed, and with 11 applications received, some for more than one building, there are more clean-ups to come.

The initiative is part of the Dunedin City Council's South Dunedin retail strategy, and $53,000 has been committed so far to successful applicants.

The grant offers funds for materials, equipment hire and labour towards cleaning and painting facades, and towards veranda maintenance work for building facades on King Edward St.
