The tenor trio La Forza, which is Italian for "The Force", will make its New Zealand debut with former Dunedin tenor Chris Fennessy at the Mayfair Theatre this week in West End to Broadway Showstoppers.
Every day this week, the ODT and Epiphany Productions will give readers the chance to win two double passes a day.
Fennessy (37) understudied the lead role of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables at the Palace Theatre, in London's West End. He has since notched up more than 2500 performances in Les Miserables in New Zealand, Australia, Asia, South Africa and England.
La Forza was modelled on Il Divo and The 10 Tenors, Fennessy said.
"The show is a mixture of pop ballads, opera and musical theatre. It's a very popular style at the moment and it's beautiful music to sing. It's not very often you can get to hear strong male voices harmonising like that. People seem to swoon to it."
The show features music from top-end shows such as Les Miserables, Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Chess and Beauty and the Beast and modern day classics by Josh Groban, Il Divo, Andrea Bocelli and Michael Buble.
It also showcases the cream of Dunedin musical talent, with cameo appeareances by Gladys Hope, Bridget Telfer, Denise Henderson, Alethea Chittenden, Gena Miles and Kelly Olsen.
"The show finishes with a finale of One Day More from Les Miserables when everyone's on stage together. That's going to be a real buzz," Fennessy said.
West End to Broadway Showstoppers with Chris Fennessy and La Forza opens at the Mayfair Theatre Friday night and runs until July 26. All shows are at 7.30pm, except for the 2pm matinee on Sunday.
