Otago Polytechnic deputy chief executive, learning and teaching services, Oonagh McGirr explains the origins of a Student Voice Symposium-Te Reo Tuatahi, which began at the polytechnic on Thursday.

About 50 student representatives from several polytechnics, including the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology and Eastern Institute of Technology (Hawke’s Bay), attended the first day of the symposium, which included discussions on what Otago Polytechnic Students’ Association president Nathan Laurie termed "social, financial and mental barriers to studying well".

The event concluded yesterday after a series of workshops, including on self-growth.
