A slice or two of pizza is on the menu for a group of tertiary students after they found a Dunedin pizza parlour’s open cash drawer lying in the street.

The students reported the find to police about 10.30pm on Tuesday, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman said.

Inquiries quickly uncovered that the cash drawer had come from Sal’s Authentic New York Pizza in nearby Great King St.

When officers arrived, they found signs of a forced entry, but it remains a mystery as to why the culprits ditched the stolen dough.

The manager of pizzeria was extremely thankful after the group found the money, which amounted to more than $700 in cash.
