'Suspicious' approaches to teen girls

Police are searching for a man driving a blue sedan after a series of ``suspicious'' approaches to teenage girls in South Dunedin last week.

Two incidents were reported to police involving what was believed to be the same light blue, four-door car, Senior Sergeant Ben Butterfield said.

The approaches occurred between 3pm and 4pm on Thursday.

``A vehicle has made an approach to a couple of teenage girls in South Dunedin offering them rides,'' Snr Sgt Butterfield said.

``Obviously, this is suspicious and we would like to speak to the person from this car.''

The first approach occurred in Tedder St and involved several teenage girls.

The second occurred in Royal Cres, where the man asked a 17-year-old girl if she wanted a ride.

The man was described as of average height and build, with stubble and wearing a dark blue cap.

``We are really interested in hearing from anybody who was in that area at that time and may have any information,'' Snr Sgt Butterfield said.

Dunedin police (03) 471-4800, Crimestoppers 0800 555-111.
