If you had gone to Larnach Castle yesterday, you'd have been sure of a big surprise.

Yesterday was the day the teddy bears had their picnic and there were lots of marvellous things to eat and wonderful games to play.

More than 100 children and their furry friends, with names like ''Mr Invincible'' and ''Dream Fairy'',

attended the annual teddy summit at the castle.

Jasmine Mihaka-George (7) and ''Big Bear'' summed up the bond between children and the timeless soft toy.

''He's my best friend and I love him because he's soft and he sleeps with me every night,'' she said.

Events included a fashion show, which involved owners modelling their teddy bears on a red carpet, egg and spoon races on the castle lawn and a Cadbury Chocolate Carnival morning tea.

It was the 10th year the teddy bears' picnic had been held as part of the Cadbury Carnival, Larnach Castle marketing manager Deborah Price said.

''It gets more popular every year. We could sell it out five times over, but we have to limit numbers.''
