Teenager injured in party roof fall

A teenager who fell from the roof of a house on the corner of Castle and Howe Sts during a mid-afternoon party on Saturday was taken to hospital, police say.

Senior Sergeant Ian Temple, of Dunedin, said police had received reports the party was becoming ''unruly'' and there were about 50 people on a roof.

That figure ''may be an overestimation'', he said.

A St John spokesman said an ambulance arrived at the house about 3.30pm on Saturday to treat a male in his late teens with moderate injuries.

He was taken to Dunedin Hospital's emergency department.

Police were called to the scene by the University of Otago's Campus Watch, which had been ''keeping an eye'' on the situation.

Snr Sgt Temple said there were no arrests. Reports of a ''similar'' party on Cumberland St came in just before 5pm, he said.

''There was a report of a similar thing; people being disorderly in the streets.''

It was thought to be a second party with the same group. It dispersed without any arrests or injuries.
