Three people are in a serious condition in Dunedin Hospital after a car ploughed into parked car on Brockville Rd this afternoon.

A witness believed two people were getting into a VW Beetle when a Toyota Vitz rounded a corner, lost control and hit a parked car.

He said two people were in the car travelling down the hill, one of which escaped  uninjured.

A second witness said the car hit two people getting into a parked car.

Firefighters and ambulance staff attended and police cordoned off the area about 4.30pm.

A St John spokeswoman said three ambulances attended and patients were taken to the emergency department.

Police issued a statement after 5.30pm saying a serious crash investigator would attend the scene and Brockville Rd was closed with detours in place.
