Two arrested after thefts

Two Dunedin men have been arrested in connection with a spate of car break-ins in the city during the past month.

Acting Senior Sergeant Chris George said a 28-year-old man had been charged with possession of instruments for car conversion, and a 40-year-old charged with receiving goods from a car, after about a dozen vehicles were broken into in Mornington yesterday morning.

Snr Sgt George said the pair were among three people who had been arrested within the past two days after possessions were stolen from cars in Mornington, Corstorphine and the inner city.

"Police are continuing to investigate whether the pair are responsible for about 50 car break-ins over the last month."
