Two badly injured after crash in Corstorphine

One person has sustained critical injuries and another serious injuries after a car crashed into a pole at high speed in Corstorphine tonight.

Both occupants of the car were trapped, one for almost an hour.

A FENZ (FIre and Emergency New Zealand) spokesman said four fire engines had been called to the scene.

The car, which sustained severe damage, was initially on fire and he understood members of the public and police had put it out using fire extinguishers.

The extrication of the second person was completed around 9.45pm.

A police spokeswoman said emergency services were called about 8.55pm and were still at the scene.

A bystander at the scene said it appeared the vehicle had crashed at a very high speed.

Power was off to the surrounding area, and a crowd had gathered on the street.
