The popular image of a Dunedin student flat may be an old villa with a tired interior and untidy yard, but the Otago University Students Association is hoping to accentuate the positive.
It has opened nominations for the second annual House and Garden competition, with prizes for categories including best room in a flat, best lounge set-up, best yard and garden, and best front door.
The competition was an opportunity to "showcase the nicer side of flatting", OUSA commerce representative Will Grigor said in a statement.
"There are lots of substandard flats out there, but we shouldn't forget there are many students who take great pride in their accommodation and work hard to make it something special."
Nominations close next Thursday, with judging on September 16 and 17.
The winners will be announced on September 19.
