Some Corstorphine residents are questioning whether roadworks in Dunedin’s wealthier suburbs have been botched as they say theirs have been.

Last week, Clermiston Ave was resealed. However many on the street reported they received no warning until the day work began.

Yesterday smooth patches with soft seal could be seen, as well as a series of rough bumps on the road.

One resident in the area, who did not want to be named, said it seemed as if the contractors hired to repair the road were cutting corners.

Dunedin did not have the best roading infrastructure overall, but that did not excuse leaving a fresh site with botched work, he said.

He believed less care was being put into their infrastructure because it was seen as "the dump area of town".

"We’re in Corstorphine. Everyone ignores us.

"I pay my bloody rates."

Another resident suggested something similar.

"That’s what you get when you live in Corstorphine.

"We wouldn’t be getting work like this if we were in Highgate."

They and others in the street did not receive any notice of the resealing until the day work began.

Before the road was resealed the quality was "like corrugated iron", another resident said.

Although the latest work had left blemishes, at least it was better than it had been, he said.

Dunedin City Council transport delivery manager Ben Hogan said council staff had inspected the work and found small areas of excess bitumen, which were considered minor blemishes.

They would be rectified at no extra cost by the contractor.

Contractors were required to at least give two days’ notice before any resealing work took place.

"Unfortunately, in this instance it appears residents in one part of the street were missed, for which we apologise."
