It was painted by Dunedin artist Bruce Mahalski over the holidays and was ready on February 5 for the children to enjoy.
Principal Jo Wilson said the mural was to celebrate the dinosaur lady Joan Wiffen, who was a self-taught paleontologist.
In 1975 she discovered proof dinosaurs had existed in New Zealand.
Ms Wilson said Ms Wiffen demonstrated the goals and aspirations of the school: to be strong, brave and willing.
Ms Wiffen had to be all of the above to follow her passion and disprove popular beliefs of her day there had been no dinosaurs in New Zealand.
The West Harbour Community Board gave $1000 towards the mural and Stewart Construction put up scaffolding for Mr Mahalski to paint the mural.
