A 28-tonne pontoon is heaved out of the Otago Boat Harbour for repair yesterday.

The marina's main mooring pontoon was damaged and partially sunk during a month-long dredging operation recently.

Otago Yacht Club commodore Frank McCarthy said the club was now getting insurance quotes.

A heavy-duty, 180-tonne capacity crane was required to lift the pontoon.

Last week, the club had two smaller pontoons delivered which it bought from the Nelson port.

Installing them would be the last phase in a marina redevelopment.
