A couple of young vehicle thieves have been up to no good in Dunedin for more than a week and the bad deeds continued yesterday. Police were called after a vehicle was broken into in Anzac Ave, near Logan Park, about 1pm. Police were notified about 1.30pm that a vehicle had been abandoned in the Forsyth Barr Stadium carpark. A short time later, police were advised of another potentially stolen vehicle being driven in the Dalmore area. Then, about 3pm, police located an abandoned Mazda MX-5 in Stenhope Cres, Corstorphine. Police were speaking with witnesses and inquiries were ongoing to locate those responsible. The two youths were subjecting the city to a campaign of chaos last week, including smashing a grandmother’s windscreen, brandishing a knife at a stranger and stealing an estimated six cars. The pair were also chased out of a Night ’n Day by a man in a moon boot for attempting to shoplift. They were caught and arrested on Monday last week in Calton Hill. On Friday night, police went to a property in Maryhill after the resident noticed the same two youths standing in their driveway. When they realised they had been spotted, the pair fled to a parked vehicle before driving off. Police, including the dog unit, searched, but initially failed to locate the young duo. A short time later they were found at a nearby address, arrested and taken into custody. They were later placed into Oranga Tamariki’s care.
