Three Dunedin science pupils have been selected to represent New Zealand at international science and technology events.

Kieran Bunn (17), of Logan Park High School, and Correspondence School pupil William Fitzgerald (17), of Dunedin, have been selected to attend the BioFutures Forum in Brisbane, and Rosie Parker (17), of Otago Girls' High School, has been selected to attend the Youth Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science (ANZAAS) conference in Sydney.

BioFutures is a week-long residential forum where Kieran and William will have the opportunity to explore cutting-edge technologies and apply them to national and global challenges.

With hands-on lab visits and face-to-face contact with some of the biotechnology industry's leading research and commercial organisations, BioFutures paves the way for the next generation of excellence in biotechnology, bio-engineering and biomedicine.

While William was surprised and delighted with his selection for the forum, Kieran was excited about the prospect of meeting other young science pupils as enthusiastic about biology as he is.

Rosie was also excited about attending the five-day Youth ANZAAS national conference.

She is one of about 54 year 12 and 13 science pupils from Australia and New Zealand to have been selected.

As part of the conference, she will visit the Centre for Forensic Science at the University of Technology in Sydney, and the Sydney Institute of Marine Science.

The Dunedin trio are among 36 pupils from around New Zealand who were selected by the Royal Society of New Zealand to attend international science and technology events around the world.

All three will be supported for international travel and registration costs, made possible by the Talented School Students Travel Award, funded by the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology and administered by the Royal Society of New Zealand.

Events which other pupils will be attending are the London International Youth Science Forum, the United States International Space Camp, the Raffles Science Camp in Singapore, and the International Science and Engineering Camp in Seoul, Korea.
