Her father, Graham Marshall, played 10 internationals for the All Whites from 1995-97, and her grandfather, Mervyn Marshall, was a successful all-round Otago sportsman.
Otago Girls' High School pupils Marshall and Courtney Dunne are the only Otago members of the Australasian futsal team that is going on a coaching and playing tour to Brazil.
Marshall (17) started playing football at the age of 7 and added futsal to her repertoire three years later.
"Our coach transferred our whole team to futsal," she said. "It has been fun.
"I like playing in the smaller area. There is more set play, and with only five players on the court, you get more ball time and can do tricks with the ball."
Marshall first represented New Zealand at futsal at Sydney last year, but this will be a more demanding trip.
"It will be a new experience going to a different country," she said. "We will get coaching from the professionals. It will be a great experience for me."
Dunne (16) has been to Australia twice and this will be the third time she has been selected for an international tour.
She was named in the All Stars team of five players after an international tournament at Sydney in January.
She started playing soccer at the age of 7 and added futsal to the mix five years ago.
"I like the pace of futsal. It is a really quick game," she said.
Travelling to a world football power like Brazil is a privilege.
"Brazilians play football a bit differently to us," she said. "I hope to learn more skills."
The tour to Brazil will be the trip of a lifetime for the two Otago Girls' High School pupils. But it comes at a price. They must each raise $10,000 to make the trip that lasts from November 18 to December 3.
